Nomad Insurance Checklist

Seven questions to answer before you pick nomad health insurance. Free, no spam, unsubscribe anytime.

The checklist

  1. How long are you away? Under a year of moving around, or living abroad with no end date? Travel health plans often cap at 12 months; international health plans don't.
  2. Will you spend time in the USA or Canada? Many nomad plans limit or charge extra for US cover. Check before you book that conference.
  3. How much time at home? Home-country cover is often limited to emergencies or a set number of days.
  4. Any prior or chronic conditions? Travel health plans usually exclude them. Read the pre-existing conditions section first.
  5. What do you actually do? Scooters, diving, surfing, skiing: check the sports list and the licence rules.
  6. Need routine care? Dental, mental health, maternity and check-ups are usually only in fuller (pricier) plans.
  7. How do claims work? Direct hospital billing for big stuff? How fast are reimbursements? Is support reachable 24/7?
